The Tarn is a beautiful department of France, with fertile valleys and fields, deep gorges, wide rivers, and famous historical and fortress towns. Open air brocante markets throughout the summer months in many locations.

Albi (40kms), is a lively historic city on the Tarn with its famous 13th century cathedral, Toulouse Lautrec museum. The well known and spectacular fortress towns of Cordes sur Ciel and Najac are 16kms. There are many other attractive towns and villages in the area - the nearest being Mirandol, (9kms) and Laguepie (12kms).

There are excellent restaurants in the area and others more simple with good traditional food. The heart of the Gaillac wine district is about three quarters of an hour away with vineyards where you can taste before you buy.

Entertainment and activities include Cap Decouverte - a vast leisure centre (20kms) with dry ski slope, skate park, rail toboganning, water skiing, and more. There is a first class 18 hole golf course on the river Tarn by Albi. There is also Atlantis Water Park. One of France's largest inland lakes, Lac de Pareloup near Rodez (65kms), has watersports and beaches. Nearer home about 15kms away, close to Carmaux, there is a lake where you can hire sailing dinghys and pedalos. Riding and tennis in Mirandol (9 kms). River fishing permits are readily available as is river canoeing and swimming. There is great walking from the house and in the area.

You will find most day to day food (wonderful fresh bread, pastries, butcher, fruit, vegetables, small supermarkets and ATM's) at Mirandol and Laguepie.
